Barbarian Grid is currently in desktop-first release-candidate testing. This roadmap separates the work being validated now from ideas that still need design and playtesting.
Philosophy
The roadmap is player-driven and flexible. Testing evidence and common pain points take priority over feature-count promises.
Current Release Candidate
Core Loop
- Guided first-day objectives that teach movement, combat, food, and free exploration
- Camp and wild end-day choices with distinct AP recovery and risk
- Daily Food consumption and craftable Field Rations
- Verified Rogue and Berserker passives, combat rewards, and Thorns death settlement
Desktop Interface
- A centered 7x7 exploration view
- Compact HUD and right-side objective/action rail
- Separate Field Kit, Workshop, and Event Log drawers
- Continued visual QA for readability, overlap, and interaction states
Release Readiness
- Regression, lint, build, and randomized map-generation checks
- Static deployment validation
- Guide and blog updates that match the shipped rules
Near-Term Priorities
Balance and Onboarding
- Tune early enemy durability and damage using playtest evidence
- Clarify survival warnings before low Food or unsafe rest becomes lethal
- Improve tutorial recovery when players take an unexpected route
Interface Refinement
- Reduce remaining density and discoverability issues on desktop
- Improve drawer and modal keyboard behavior
- Defer a full mobile redesign until the desktop experience is stable
Content and Systems
- Add encounters only when they create a distinct decision
- Rebalance the Tax and Food economy using completion data and playtests
- Improve run summaries and local save resilience
Longer-Term Possibilities
These are directions under consideration, not promised release dates:
- Additional classes and deeper class progression
- New biomes, enemies, bosses, and status effects
- More crafting routes and rare equipment choices
- Optional run modifiers and longer survival modes
- Detailed combat statistics and run summaries
- Local save export, import, and recovery options
Community Input
Useful feedback includes unclear or unfair first-week moments, slow desktop workflows, automatic-feeling decisions, and exact bug reproduction steps.

Quality Gate
Before a feature is treated as release-ready, it should be:
- Tested through the real player flow
- Covered by focused regression tests where practical
- Balanced against the existing survival economy
- Explained consistently in the game and public guides
Dates and scope may change when testing shows that the core game needs more work. Major changes and roadmap revisions will be posted on the blog.
